Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari, parliamentary party chief L K Advani and Leader of Opposition of both Houses of Parliament will finalise the strategy for Presidential and Vice Presidential elections and discuss the issue with the National Democratic Alliance partners.
BJP sources said Gadkari, Advani, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and her Rajya Sabha counterpart Arun Jaitley have been authorised by the party to discuss the strategy for the Presidential elections whose schedule was announced by the Election Commission on Tuesday.
BJP is likely to put up a candidate for both president and Vice-President posts despite lacking the numbers.
The party wants to convey a message by contesting these two polls that it is not with the Congress-led UPA, ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, sources said.
The four senior BJP leaders will also discuss the issues with the NDA partners and other like-minded parties, they said.
Among the front-runner NDA candidates for the Vice President's post are senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh and SAD patron and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
