The gunfight erupted late Monday afternoon after troops from the Rashtriya Rifles and the police jointly surrounded a home in Hajanbala Rajpora area of Pulwama district were alerted about the presence of a militants inside the home.
More reinforcements were rushed to the area and cordon was tightened on Monday. “As the security forces challenged the holed up militants, they began firing, triggering an encounter,” a senior police officer said.
“A fierce encounter ensued at the end of which three militants were killed. Arms and ammunition have also been recovered. Searches are still continuing,” the officer added.
The officer further added that the slain militants belonged to the terror group of Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit.
