The best speeches from no-trust vote

Its outcome may have been well known, but that didn't prevent the treasury benches and the Opposition from giving it their all during the first no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government, on Friday.

From the Telugu Desam Party's Jayadev Galla to Trinamool Congress's Sougata Roy to Communist Party of India-Marxist's Mohammed Salim, Samajwadi Party's Mulayam Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party’s Ram Vilas Paswan, all parties rolled out their biggest guns.

More than 10 speakers made their case during the no-confidence vote, the first faced by the Narendra Modi government.

Jayadev Galla, the Telugu Desam Party Lok Sabha MP from Guntur, initiated the no-confidence motion against the government after being asked by his party chief -- N Chandrababu Naidu. You can read his speech here.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi surprised everyone when he hugged Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But in between his hug and a wink, Gandhi questioned the government over unfulfilled promises. You can read his speech here.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke on a slew of issues -- from mob lynching to national security. He also minced no words in criticising Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, without naming him, for his controversial 'Hindu Pakistan' and 'Hindu Taliban' remarks. You can read his speech here.

In his 90-minute reply to the motion, PM Modi, in his typical style, took swipe at the Congress and Rahul Gandhi. Once again calling the Congress chief 'naamdaar', Modi sarcastically remarked that a 'poor mother's son' like himself cannot look into his eyes. You can read his speech here.
