India and Thailand on Saturday urged the international community to jointly fight terrorism.

In a joint statement, Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani and his Thai counterpart Wissanu Krea-Ngam said, "Recent terrorist act in various parts of the world have demonstrated that terrorism is a global phenomenon which requires concerted international action."

The two sides decided to 'institutionalise security cooperation' and sought expeditious conclusion of bilateral extradition treaty, a mutual legal assistance treaty in criminal matters, an agreement on transfer of convicted prisoners and a memorandum of understanding on narcotic trafficking control.

These treaties will provide legal sustenance to bilateral cooperation in these areas, the statement said.

New Delhi and Bangkok also agreed to hold a meeting of Joint Working Group on security.
