Two militants believed to be from the Lashkar-e-Tayiba were killed in an overnight gunfight in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
A senior police officer said that troops of Rashtriya Rifles and special operation group of the state police jointly cordoned off Samboora village on Wednesday evening on receiving information about the presence of militants.
“As security forces were searching the village, militants hiding in a house opened fire triggering an encounter. Two militants, one local identified as Manzoor Ahmad and a foreigner were killed. Two AK-47 rifles were recovered,” the officer said.
“The area is still under cordon as searches are continuing,” he added.
