Terrorists on Tuesday gunned down a cop and critically wounded a Panchayat poll candidate in north Kashmir Barramulla district.
A senior police officer said militants fired from a close range at a policeman identified as Mohammad Shafi Dar in Tujjar village on the outskirts of Sopore town on Tuesday morning.
"Dar received critical bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries on the spot before he could be evacuated to hospital for treatment", the officer said.
The body of the constable was buried in his ancestral graveyard with full honours, according to a police statement which also said that senior police officers attended the funeral.
In another incident, a Panchayat poll candidate was shot at by militants and wounded near Sopore town on Tuesday afternoon. The candidate, Mohammad Maqbool was taken to hospital for treatment.
