Four people, including three paramilitary central reserve police force troopers were injured, when terrorists attacked a CRPF picket guarding the State Bank of India building in the north Kashmir's Sopore town on Friday afternoon with a hand grenades and gunfire.

The police said the terrorists had tossed a powerful hand grenade followed by firing from automatic weapons at the CRPF jawans, who were manning a bunker outside the local branch of the SBI, injuring three of them and a civilian passerby.

"The CRPF also retaliated and returned the fire," a senior police officer told rediff.com. He said the injured were evacuated to hospital for treatment.

Authorities have rushed police and paramilitary reinforcements to the area, which has been surrounded for searches.

High tension has gripped Sopore town as shopkeepers downed their shutters in the area and pedestrians ran for security.
