Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday warned that Telangana would burn if the Centre chose to constitute a regional development council and did not keep its promise of carving out a separate state.

"I would like to humbly submit to the prime minister...it was you who made the promise on December 9, 2009 on creating Telangana state. If you do any 'hera pheri', Telangana will not tolerate you. You will see a burning Telangana. The hearts of four crore Telangana people will burn and you alone will be responsible for what happens," he said.

Addressing a meeting organised by pro-Telangana outfits to pay homage to former vice-chancellor of Kakatiya University K Jayashankar, the TRS chief asserted that people of Telangana would never accept a regional development council, as suggested by the Justice Srikrishna Committee.

"People of the region will dump the Congress party in Bay of Bengal if it constitutes a regional development council instead of creating Telangana state. Nothing less than a separate state will do," he added.

Later, the TRS president drove to the residence of state Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy as part of the strategy to mount pressure on Congress leaders from the region to quit their posts immediately in support of the statehood demand.

Accompanied by the TRS Legislature Party leader E Rajender and Member of Legislative Assembly T Harish Rao, Rao reportedly discussed the strategy to be adopted for the next course of agitation for a separate state.
