The Bharatiya Janata Party will review its strategy for the upcoming assembly polls at its national executive in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on July 19 and 20, party spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Monday.
Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, party chief M Venkaiah Naidu and other leaders will attend the meeting, he said.
Leaders from the party's various wings, including the BJP Yuva Morcha, will hold a meeting on July 18 at the same place, he added.
He said following the BJP's chintan baithak (brainstorming session) near Mumbai recently, Naidu had written to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee requesting him to set up commissions to study the feasibility of reservation for the economically backward classes, to study the problems of disabled persons and to understand the problems of the de-notified or nomadic tribes.
Responding to a query, the spokesperson said the BJP would strengthen its relations with Sangh Parivar outfits. He described them as 'nationalist organisations'.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad had expressed opposition to the proposal by Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati that both a temple and a mosque should be constructed at the disputed site in Ayodhya.
VHP chief Ashok Singhal went to the extent of saying that if the government did not construct a temple in Ayodhya, his party would strive for Vajpayee's defeat in his Lucknow parliamentary constituency.
Significantly, Naidu indicated that the BJP appreciated the stand taken by the seer regarding the Ayodhya dispute.
