Vikas Swarup, spokesperson, ministry of external affairs, said details like Geeta’s photographs over the years, identification marks, have been provided to the Bihar CM and he has been requested to forward it to the officials at the district level.
“Our efforts are on to ascertain her parents. Few days back External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has written to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar providing him her details.
“The letter has Geeta’s photos, how she looked before. We have sent details about her identification marks. We have also given details about her possible areas of origin as indicated by her,” Swarup said.
“He has been requested to pass on the information in all districts and from there it can be passed on to village level so that the process of finding Geeta’s family could be expedited,” he said.
Geeta returned to India in October last year, nearly 15 years after she accidentally crossed over to Pakistan. She has been staying in Indore at an institution for hearing-impaired people till her family is located by the government.
“She was also invited as a guest at the Republic Day ceremony,” Swarup said.
