Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has written to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh levelling serious charges against Home Minister P Chidambaram's son Karthi.
In the letter, a copy of which is with rediff.com, Swamy has alleged that soon after his press conference in March this year where he announced several companies which Karthi was allegedly a director, the latter resigned from one such, namely Ausbridge Holding and Investments Pvt Ltd. The latter company, Swamy said in his letter, held majority stake in two companies, Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt Ltd and Kaiser Surya Samudra Resorts Ltd, whose accounts were totally manipulated.
Swamy claims in his letter that as per the financial statements filed by Advantage Strategic Consulting, there was a financial transaction between it and Aircel Televenture owned by C Sivasankaran to the tune of Rs 26,00,444. The latter was the parent company of Aircel Ltd and Aircel Cellular Ltd, the GSM licence holders that was represented by the brand Aircel.
This financial dealing between the two, Swamy alleges in his letter, was done just a few months before Maxis of Singapore's investment of Rs 4,000 crore to acquire 74 per cent of Aircel was approved by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board, allegedly at then finance minister P Chidambaram's behest.
In his letter Swamy alleges that the Rs 26 lakh transaction by Advantage Strategic Consulting was to 'share the booty of around Rs 4,000 crore from Matrix', as a pre-condition for Chidambaram giving the FIPB' nod for the investment.
Swamy has urged the prime minister to get Chidambaram to resign from the Union Cabinet and to include the latter and his son Karthi in the FIR on the Aircel-Matrix deal along with former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran.
