Stating that the creation of separate Bundelkhand Development Authority will ensure development of the backward region, Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Monday asked the Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh governments to shun doing politics over the issue.

"I ask governments of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh not to do politics over the inter-state BDA as its formation will usher in development in the backward region," Singh told mediapersons in Indore.

Without understanding the vision behind the BDA's formation, both states have started doing politics over the issue, he said.

Singh said the chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh without properly going through the proposal submitted to Prime Minister by All India Congress Committee General Secretary Rahul Gandhi have opposed the BDA's formation.

The former Madhya Pradesh CM said UP and MP will get cent per cent central financial help for the development of Bundelkhand, with the creation of BDA. (

"Not only both the states will have representation in BDA but they will also be involved in giving shape to the development activities in Bundelkhand," the AICC general secretary said.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had recently said the formation of BDA was unjustified and an interference in the federal structure of the country after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's stiff opposition to it.
