Curfew was on Thursday imposed in border town of Rajouri district in view of communal tension there following stone-pelting on a religious procession and subsequent tear gas shelling.

"The curfew has been imposed in Rajouri border town on Thursday morning as a precautionary measure in view of the tension," police said.

Additional security personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas of the town to maintain peace and tranquillity, they said, adding that there were no reports of untoward incident till the last report came around noon.

On Wednesday, some unidentified persons pelted stones at a religious procession in Rajouri town, prompting police to lob tear gas shells to disperse them.

A group of people, protesting the recent remarks of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad International President that allegedly hurt sentiments of a particular community, pelted stones at the religious procession.

VHP International President Praveen Togadia had visited the border town on Sunday and made some remarks which allegedly hurt the sentiments of a particular community. A case was registered by the police in this connection.
