Security forces on Saturday afternoon rounded up 35 alleged stone-pelters from the Bemina locality of Srinagar on Saturday.
Heavy contingents of police and the Central Reserve Police Force put up a cordon around Nundrishi colony in the uptown Bemina locality on Saturday afternoon and asked the residents to come out of their homes.
They later picked up 35 persons from the locality and shifted them to the police station. This was the first crackdown against stone-pelters
in Srinagar, where curfew remained in force today.
Saturday's operation was a move to end the cycle of violence in which youth pelt stones at security forces across Kashmir. So far, 62 civilians have been killed in firing by security forces across the Valley.
Meanwhile, protests and stone pelting incidents continued at several places in the valley, where curfew and restrictions remained in force. Life continued to remain paralysed across Kashmir in view of a shutdown called by separatists.
