July 04, 2006 15:50 IST

Sri Lanka's navy has arrested 10 Indian fishermen, who strayed into the island's territorial waters.

The fishermen were arrested on Monday by naval patrols off the island's Puttalam coast and two of their boats seized.

"We arrested them on suspicion, but there were no explosives found on them," a navy spokesman said on Tuesday.

"We have handed them over to the police for further investigations," he said.

Police said the men were being held for questioning and the Indian authorities in Colombo had been informed.
