After Union Ministers S M Krishna and Shashi Tharoor were compelled to vacate their rooms at five-star hotels, the debate on whether the people we elect to Parliament and legislatures should enjoy extravagance and comfort at the taxpayers's expense (Mr Krishna and Dr Tharoor personally paid their hotel bills) has raged on television channels, in newspaper columns and, of course, on the Internet.
The government may have issued directives to all its departments to impose austerity -- which includes no first class or business class air travel, no seminar at five-star hotels, 10 per cent cut in all domestic and foreign tour expenses and 10 per cent cut in advertisements -- but how will our power-spoilt netas and babus respond?
Will they ignore the directive and continue to live life life kingsize?
If you spot a politician or civil servant seen to be violating the austerity guidelines, why don't you shoot a photograph and/or video and send it to us? We shall post the best images and videos on rediff.com
Send your photographs to citizen.reporter@rediffmail.com or Upload your videos at //ishare.rediff.com/ and send us the link at citizen.reporter@rediffmail.com
