"Some people from inside Congress want to remove Manmohan Singh and bring in the 'Yuvraaj'. I have my doubts if this politics (the demand of PM's resignation by the BJP) is being played out from within the Congress," senior SP leader Mohan Singh said.
The Congress, however, rejected this statement outright, with party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi saying, "There can be no bigger false imagination than this."
"The party has repeated this several times...before the 2009 elections, said in our manifesto that our prime ministerial candidate is Manmohan Singh. After that also, we have said this several times that he will continue to remain the prime minister till 2014. He (Mohan Singh) should not bother about this," he said.
Regretting the repeated adjournment of Parliament, Singh alleged the BJP was raking up the Comptroller and Auditor General's report to prepare the grounds for the coming elections.
Meanwhile, SP general secretary Ramgopal Yadav refused to offer any comments on the remarks made by party leader Mohan Singh.
On the disruption of proceedings in the House, Ramgopal Yadav said, "Only a debate can help in moving towards the resolution of issues. It is not necessary that whatever the prime minister has said is correct and that the allegations of the BJP may also not be fully correct."
He said only a debate on the issue can "bring out the real picture...After that, if the BJP is not satisfied, then they have every right to do whatever they want to."
Asked if the prime minister was right in attacking the CAG report, the SP leader said, "The CAG is a constitutional body but it is not necessary that its report is always correct."
The prime minister had on Monday said the CAG report on the coal block allocation was flawed and misleading.
