Demanding the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati over law and order situation in the state, the Samajwadi Party on Monday said she should take moral responsibility for the current situation in the state which was being called "balatkari pradesh" following a spate of rape incidents.

"Mayawati should take moral responsibility of the pitiable condition of law and order in the state and resign. It's unfortunate that UP is known as balatkari (rapist) pradesh in her regime," opposition SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav told mediapersons in Lucknow.

Citing incidents of rapes in Etah, Kanpur, Gonda, Basti, Kannauj, Saharanpur and others districts, Yadav alleged that the chief minister was in "deep slumber" while the administration was not paying any heed to the common man's woes.

"The CM doesn't meet anyone except two-three ministers and officers. It's unfortunate that a chief minister is not available for common man. She never met her own MPs and MLAs,"he claimed

"While corruption has reached its peak, there is no law and order with criminals ruling the roost in the state," Yadav alleged.
