The Left made it clear to United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Friday that it would not compromise on the issue of BHEL divestment as it amounted a violation of the Common Minimum Programme.
The announcement came after Sonia met Leftist leaders on Friday in a bid to resolve differences over the disinvestment issue.
Karat told a press conference after the meeting that the Left parties would continue to boycott UPA coordinating committee meetings till the issue is resolved.
Communist Party of India national secretary D Raja was also present at the meeting called by Sonia.
The Left leaders are unhappy over the manner in which the UPA government is going ahead with disinvestment of profit making public sector companies and inviting foreign direct investment.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and top Congress leaders, including Gandhi and Union ministers P Chidambaram, Arjun Singh, Shivraj Patil and Ghulam Nabi Azad, met on Thursday do discuss the issue.
