The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy seeking initiation of proceedings against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for giving false information about her educational qualification in an affidavit filed during the parliamentary elections.
Swamy alleged that Sonia had, in the affidavit filed before the Rae Bareli Returning Officer, claimed to have passed in 1965 an English certificate course from Lenox Cook School purportedly coming under the University of Cambridge.
He said an enquiry in the University of Cambridge had clarified that Sonia Gandhi, nee Maino, was never a student of the university.
He requested the court to initiate proceedings against Sonia for misleading voters by saying she was highly educated.
However, the court found nothing wrong with the affidavit and said it clearly mentioned that she got the certificate from Lenox Cook School.
