Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre for not giving vital documents pertaining to Kargil arms purchases to the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament.

The government had taken kickbacks when coffins meant for Kargil martyrs were purchased, she said.

"What expectation can one have from a government that does not show respect to the nation's martyrs," she said launching the Congress' campaign for the coming assembly elections in Delhi.

The refusal of the documents to the PAC was unprecedented in the country's parliamentary history, she said on the occasion of 'Quit India' Day.

The government had pressured the Central Bureau of Investigation to drop charges against Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani and several others in the Babri Masjid demolition case, she added.

"What justice can one expect from such a government?"

She said the Centre had also dislodged a democratically elected government in the Northeast (Arunachal Pradesh) to fulfil its "selfish political ends".
