A woman in Bihar's Purnia district has filed a complaint against her husband who slapped a fine of Rs 25000 on her for delivering a baby girl.
Shahnaz Bano, in her early 30s, was shocked when her husband Mohammad Manzoor slapped a fine on her and asked her to arrange the fine amount from her parents before stepping into his house again.
That was not all. Manzoor warned her that the fine would double if she gave birth to another baby girl in future. For him, the birth of a girl child is a burden.
Acting upon Bano's complaint, the district police forwarded
her case to the family dispute redressal cell, which issued a notice to her husband.
Bano told
rediff.com over telephone that the attitude of her husband and in-laws changed suddenly after she delivered a daughter. "My husband threatened with dire consequences if I failed to bring the fined amount. It is unbelievable, but a hard fact for me," she said.
Following police intervention, Bano's husband agreed to withdraw his fine on her.
