The Army foiled two infiltration bids and engaged terrorists in a gun battle in north Kashmir Kupwara district killing seven terrorists. A defence spokesman said in Srinagar that troops foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control in the Tangdhar sector of north Kashmir Kupwara district, killing three militants.

The spokesman said the bid has been foiled even though searches in the area are still going on. In another incident early Wednesday morning, the army foiled yet another infiltration bid across the LoC, when a group of militants tried to sneak into this side in the Keran sector of Kupwara district. He said two militants were killed by the army in this operation.

In a fierce encounter between the army and militants in Parkian village of the same district, two militants were killed. The gunfight erupted, when a group of hiding militants in the village was challenged by the army to surrender upon which they opened fire."The army has so far killed two militants and the operation is still on," the spokesman said.

The army has also surrounded a forest area in the Pir Panjal mountain range in south Kashmir on specific information that a group of militants was hiding in the area.
