Seven go missing after boat capsize in Assam

Seven persons went missing on Friday evening after a boat carrying 22 persons on board capsized on the Champavati river, a tributary of the Brahmaputra, in Bongaigaon district of western Assam.

The mishap occurred at around 5:30 pm on Friday as the boat was returning from Chapar in Dhubri district of western Assam from a local weekly market to Ouguri in the adjoining Bongaigaon district.

A senior police official in Bongaigaon district said 15 persons were rescued while seven others remained untraced till late on Friday night.

Rescue operations are continuing.
