Sedition case filed against Baba Ramdev in Patna

A case of sedition against yoga guru Baba Ramdev has been filed in a local court in Patna on Thursday.

The Patna civil court accepted a complaint seeking registration of a case of sedition against Baba Ramdev and his second-in-command Acharya Balkrishna for making statements challenging the sovereignty of the country and threatening to raise a militia to take on the government. 

The complainant Vinay Kumar Singh has prayed that the court summon Baba Ramdev and prosecute him for offenses to harm national interest.

Singh told rediff.com over telephone that he has filed a complaint case of sedition against Baba Ramdev after he threatened to form an armed force if there was a repeat of the police crackdown

against him. 

Ramdev, whose health deteriorated on the fifth day of his fast against corruption, said that he will build an army of 11,000 men and women.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram reacted sharply to Ramdev's comments terming the remark "anti-national" and said the yoga guru had revealed his "true colours".

Early this week a Muzaffarpur court accepted a complaint seeking registration of a case of sedition against Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh for allegedly describing yoga guru Baba Ramdev as a fraud.

The complaint was filed by advocate Sudhir Ojha, who sought to book the Congress leader under section 154(A) (sedition), 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the IPC.
