Security forces on Tuesday averted a major tragedy with the timely detection of a powerful IED on Srinagar-Kupwara road, official said.
A 2.5 kg IED fitted in a pressure cooker was planted by militants on the main road at Arampora near Sopore, but alert security personnel detected the explosive which was neutralised by a bomb disposal squad, they said.
Meanwhile, militants carried out a grenade attack on a CRPF picket outside Gole Masjid area in Tral town, in Pulwama district.
However, none was hurt as the grenade failed to explode and was later safely destroyed by the experts, officials said.
