While students from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions have called for a strike on Monday to protest against the attack on their teachers by pro Telangana students, Telangana activists prevented candidates from other regions from appearing in job interviews in Mahbubnagar district on Sunday.
In a development, which was likely to further inflame the protests, pro Telangana students forced candidates from Andhra region to go back from Mahatma Gandhi University in Nalgonda, where interview for a lecturers' job on Sunday was being held.
Shouting pro-Telangana slogans, the students demanded that only local people should get job opportunities in a Telangana region university.
They stopped the interviews till the Andhra students left the campus.
Some of the candidates tried explaining that they had been living in Telangana for many years and should get an opportunity. But the violent mood of the protestors forced them to leave the place.
This is the second incident in two days where pro Telangana protestors have targeted people from Andhra and Rayalaseema.
A group of Andhra teachers was attacked by students of Osmania University in Hyderabad on Friday when they had come for spot evaluation of BEd papers.
Angered by the incident the United Andhra Joint Action Committee called for strike by all schools and colleges in 13 districts of the two regions on Monday.
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has announced its opposition to Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission Examination for Group I jobs.
The TRS has said that the examination should be held only after identifying the share of Telangana in the Group I jobs.
Speaking in Mahbubnagar on Sunday Chandrasekhar Rao denied that the Telangana students had attacked the Andhra teachers in Osmania University.
"They only held a demonstration but the matter was being blown out of proportion by the governor and the chief minister," he said.
On the other hand the attack on teachers has evoked strong reaction from political leaders of the region. Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu termed it as "unfortunate" and held the government's lax attitude responsible for the incident.
