"The police will launch combat operations against Naxalites with the help of satellite maps," said a senior police officer in state police headquarters.
Bihar police hopes to monitor the movements of the members of Naxalite outfit Communist Party of India (Maoist) with satellite links from a room in police headquarters.
According to police, the idea of using satellites came up at a meeting of the national coordination committee of the extremist-hit states.
The state police have already been provided with maps that indicate the areas of intensive operation and training grounds of the extremists in north Bihar and some parts of south Bihar.
Sources in the police department said the stepped-up activities of Maoists in Bihar and Jharkhand as well as in the neighbouring country Nepal have forced the police to "identify the exact location of the extremists and hit them hard."
