Shiromani Akali Dal president Parkash Singh Badal and several of his party legislators were arrested in Chandigarh on Saturday while on their way to the governor's house to protest the alleged booth-capturing by the ruling Congress during the February 23 Ajnala byelection.
Police used water-jets and lathis to stop Badal and other SAD members, including former finance minister of Punjab Kanwaljit Singh, and Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, a kilometre before the group could reach the Raj Bhawan.
