India and Russia have agreed to cooperate closely in combating terrorism.
The two sides, at the third meeting of the India-Russia Joint Working Group on Combating International Terrorism in Moscow on January 19-20, said that cooperation in this regard constituted an important part of the strategic partnership.
The Indian delegation at the meeting was led by Meera Shankar, additional secretary (UN) in the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Russian side was headed by Anatoly Safonov, special representative of the president of the Russian Federation for international cooperation in fight against terrorism and trans-national organised crime.
"They unequivocally condemned all acts, methods and practices of terrorism, including cross-border terrorism and reiterated their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in the field of counter terrorism," a source said.
The next session of the JWG is likely to be held in New Delhi in the second half of this year in the run up to the annual Indo-Russian summit in Moscow.
