Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice in the pre-lunch sitting on Friday following noisy scenes over a variety of issues raised by members.

With a number of members seeking to raise different matters simultaneously soon after Question Hour, the House was adjourned for 15 minutes.

As Deputy Chairperson K Rahman Khan asked Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri to read out the schedule for next week, Sushma Swaraj rose to ask the fate of the Women's Reservation Bill.

Members cutting across party lines, who too wanted to know whether the bill was being introduced during the current session, spontaneously backed her.

Pachauri then said the UPA Government was very much committed to the bill and was in favour of bringing it as early as possible.

When the members wanted to know the specific time-frame, he said there was a procedure to be followed before a bill is introduced and the legislation is passing through that stage.

As soon as the Chair took up Special Mentions listed for the day, noisy scenes were witnessed with Rashid Alvi (Congress) and Dinesh Trivedi (Trinamool Congress) wanting to know the fate of their Zero Hour notices. This led to commotion and the House was adjourned at 1215 hours for 15 minutes.

When the House reassembled, similar scenes prevailed and the Chair adjourned it within five minutes.
