Rohit Nandan, an Indian Administrative Service officer, and currently a joint secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation is set to become the new chairman and managing director of Air India. He will be replacing Arvind Jadhav, who is being shown the door for poor management and the galloping losses the national carrier has suffered.

The government zeroed in on Nandan since top officials believe that he will bring a fresh perspective to Air India, and is untouched by slander or controversy. He has been given a three-year fixed tenure.

Rohit is the grandson of Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, a tall leader of UP who had left the Congress during Indira Gandhi's time.

Rita Bahuguna Joshi, his daughter, is now the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president, his son Vijay the Congress Lok Sabha member of Parliament from Tehri Garhwal, and second son Shekhar Bahuguna the UPCC vice president.

Rohit is the son of Vijay Bahuguna.

With the piled up losses of Air India, the government had been looking for a replacement for Jadvav who is said to have been backed by key officials in the Prime Minister's Office, including the Principal secretary to the prime minister, T K A Nair.
