The main focus of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's talks in New Delhi will be the increasingly cordial Indo-US relations, informed sources said on Tuesday.

Rice will arrive in India on her eight-day trip to South Asia and East Asia. She will visit Pakistan, Afghanistan, Japan, Korea and China.

High-tech US exports, the situation in Pakistan, Iraq and Afghanistan, joint exercises by armed forces of the two countries and the Next Steps in Strategic Partnership framework are some of the other topics that are expected to figure in talks she will have with the Indian leadership, the sources said.

Meanwhile, the White House has said that the United States continued to encourage dialogue between India and Pakistan to reduce tension in the region.

"There are encouraging signs between India and Pakistan as they have worked to improve their relations," White House Spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters in Washington on Monday before Rice embarked on her trip.
