Bengal police officer Atindranath Dutta, who was released unharmed after being kidnapped by the Maoists last month, faces disciplinary action for not joining work.
"Two days after he returned home on October 24 we served him a notice asking him to resume work after three days, but he didn't respond," said West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Verma over phone.
Dutta, the officer-in-charge of Sankrail police station in West Midnapore district, was given another notice on October 31 to resume duty within three days, but no answer was received, he said.
When asked about possible action against Dutta, Inspector General (Western Range) Kuldeep Singh said, "As he has not applied for sick leave, we will serve him notices, but if he doesn't respond he might be showcaused and face disciplinary action."
Replying to a query about the Dutta's posting, Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh said, "That will be decided by the superintendent of police."
Meanwhile, Sanjib Roy has joined as the new officer-in-charge of Sankrail police station. Roy was earlier posted at Raina and Goaltore police stations in the district.
