Increased awareness among people has led to rise in number of eye donations in the country, which is only expected to increase

The data, taken from National Programme for Control of Blindness, shows that states like Daman & Diu, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Uttarakhand have shown a tremendous progress in collection of donated eyes over the last few years.
However, states like Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Tripura and Andhra Pradesh the collection of donated eyes has dropped.
According to the National Programme for Control of Blindness, the goal is to reduce the prevalence of blindness to 0.3 per cent by the year 2020. To achieve that various activities/initiatives are undertaken during Five Year Plans under NPCB.
