Loyalists of former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa have made another attempt to resign from the Bharatiya Janata Party unit in the state. This time, they have emailed their resignations to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. F

ourteen BJP legislators had made an attempt to put in their papers on Wednesday but failed to do so as the Speaker was not available.

On Thursday, the BJP rebels sent their resignations to the Speaker via e-mail.

Nehru Olekar, one of the Yeddyurappa loyalists, informed media personnel about their latest step, adding that they were now waiting for the Speaker’s response.

Some of the rebel BJP MLAs said that if their resignations were not accepted, they would move the Karnataka high court and file a habeas corpus petition for the Speaker.

A habeas corpus petition is usually filed to track a missing person.

The rebel MLAs and two ministers in the BJP government had even met Karnataka Governor H R Bharadwaj and sought his intervention.

Although the governor is not authorised to accept resignations of MLAs, he assured them that he would look into the matter and take a decision as per law.
