In a shocking incident, an 85-year-old woman, who was allegedly raped two days ago, died on Tuesday in Moga, the police said.
The victim, belonging to Dhilwan village, was alone in the house on Sunday when the accused, identified as Harbhajan Singh, committed the crime, the police said.
When a neighbour came to provide tea to the victim, she found the accused allegedly assaulting the old woman, and raised an alarm following which he escaped, the police added.
The family of the victim did not inform the police on the day of the crime fearing insult, the police said.
The victim's body was brought to the civil hospital in Moga for postmortem, the police said.
