Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao has been posted as Additional Secretary in the ministry of personnel of the Centre.
Rao, a 1979-batch IAS officer, would be the 'Establishment Officer' in the Ministry of Personnel. "I would assume my new responsibility on October 4," Rao said.
Rao, who was a Principal Secretary in the state government, was empanelled for promotion as Additional Secretary by the Centre last year. He was posted as Chief Electoral Officer in 2008.
Rao, who successfully conducted simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assembly last year, has won laurels from various quarters for the way he discharged his duties.
During his tenure as CEO, he introduced several innovative measures for conducting the whole election process in a transparent and effective manner. Installing drop boxes at public places like supermarkets, involving post offices for voters' registration, entering into MoUs with NGOs for increasing voters' awareness, using 3G mobile phones to get updated information on voting process are some of the measures that won him appreciation from political parties, media and people at large.
