Rajasthan high court judge Justice Arun Madan, against whom the Chief Justice of India had instituted a probe following allegations of corruption, has resigned.

Justice Madan submitted his resignation to the President on Thursday, official sources said on Friday.

The judge was in the news recently when the then Chief Justice of India G B Pattanaik appointed a three-judge inquiry panel to probe allegations of sexual gratification sought by a court official on his behalf in return for judicial favours.

While the panel could not link the allegations to the judge, it had reportedly found some corruption charges against him.

Justice Pattanaik had reportedly asked Justice Madan to resign, which the latter refused to do while expressing his willingness to face an inquiry on the corruption charges.

The panel, comprising chief justice of the Punjab and Haryana high court B K Roy, then acting chief justice of the Delhi high court Devender Gupta and Justice Aftab Alam of the Patna high court, has since submitted its report to Chief Justice V N Khare.
