The Indian Railways has given its sanction for installing Anti-Collision Devices on 3465 km North, North East, South, South Central and South Western routes.

The work on the North East Frontier Railway segment has been taken up as a pilot project to be completed by 2004-05, an official release said on Tuesday.

Further work will be taken up only after the success of the North-East section, it said.

The total estimated cost of providing the devices on the entire broad gauge network of the Indian Railways is Rs 1,815 crores as per the Corporate Safety Plan -- 2003-13.

The ACD is a technological breakthrough by the Konkan Railway and is designed to prevent head-on-collisions, the release said.
