The Income Tax department on Thursday conducted raids at 500 locations in the country, including 40 in Mumbai, for possible income tax evasion.
The department confirmed that searches were on but refused to divulge details.
"The Income Tax department conducted raids on several professionals and service providers," senior officials said, adding, "The raids are still on and further details are awaited."
The raids, which began on Thursday morning, were carried out on builders, doctors, interior designers, advertisement agencies among others, DG (Investigation) S S N Moorthy told PTI I Mumbai.
