Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has invited Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to join him to watch the much awaited World Cup semi final between India and Pakistan, and also to join in a special dinner organised in honour of visiting Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday night.
In few hours from now, PM Singh and Rahul Gandhi would fly together to Mohali to cheer up the Indian team.
This shows that the Gandhis and Congress party is giving a thumbs-up to PM Singh's 'cricket diplomacy' and his endeavour to stabilise relationship with Pakistan.
Rahul Gandhi, a known fitness freak, had suffered a sprain in his right leg during his vacation in Karnataka. The plaster has been removed recently, but his leg is not fully healed.
Rahul keeps track of cricket but he is more into scuba-diving and shooting. However, his friends vouch that he is, like his father Rajiv Gandhi, a sports-minded person and an athlete.
So far, he has kept himself away from actively getting involved with sports associations which have become powerful bodies and hyper battleground for politics.
During the Commonwealth Games, he was seen in wrestling, hockey and few other competitions. He has also visited few matches of the Indian Premier League last season. Rahul Gandhi had seen the first one-day international match between India-Pakistan in Karachi on March 13, 2004.
Today, watch out for the high-level political play when Rahul Gandhi accompanies PM Singh in cricket and diplomacy in Mohali.
