In the wake of racist bullying of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty by fellow contestants in a British reality television show, UK-based Indian origin singer Apache Indian has alleged that 'UK is institutionalising racism, which may force many Indians to move out.'

"The time for the UK is over. People are getting shot and killed because of the colour of their skin. People have the freedom of speech to say they are gay or they are racist, and when you have a racist party standing for elections, you know this is the time to get out before you are thrown out," the renowned singer told media persons in an informal chat in Panaji on Tuesday evening.

"Racism is worst today than ever before because of immigration and terrorism. What is happening around the world is reflecting in people's attitude," Apache, who is in Goa to perform in a concert, said.

As per records, Apache remains the only Indian origin artist to have seven top hits on the mainstream UK music charts and has sold more than 11 million albums worldwide.

Commenting on Shilpa Shetty row on Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother reality show, Apache said that they touched a raw nerve and picked up a subject that is sensitive and current.

"Now, people are beginning to discuss what is a multi-cultural society. It was a change taking place since the 80s, only now people are talking about it," he said.
