The students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, have welcomed the Supreme Court's decision not to review its stay order on reservation for candidates of other backward classes.

Students' spokesperson Chandra Shekhar Bharat said the students will celebrate the decision once their ongoing exams are over.

He said the apex court's decision was along expected lines.

The students also demanded the immediate resignation of Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh for putting the government in this shameful position.

Another member of the students' body, Nutan Bharat, said that the idea of implementing the caste-based reservations from the next semester showed that the real intuition of the government was only to secure votes of certain caste and to divide this country further in castes and religion.
