Biting cold has gripped the plains of Punjab and Haryana with Hisar turning out to be the coldest place in the region today with a minimum of 3.2 degrees Celsius.
While the mercury in Hisar settled three notches below normal range, Narnaul also shivered at a low of 4 degrees C, down four notches, the Met said.
Ambala also had a cold night at 5.4 deg C, down two degrees while the low at Bhiwani settled at 6.4 deg C.
Rohtak and Karnal recorded a minimum of 6 degree C each.
In Punjab, intense cold gripped Ludhiana, where mercury dropped to 4.4 deg C, down three notches. Amritsar recorded a low of 5.4 deg C while the minimum in Patiala was 5 deg C.
The Met said fog reduced visibility early this morning in many places, including Karnal and Rohtak, in Haryana and at Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab.
The cold conditions are likely to continue over the next two days in the region, the Met said.
