One policeman was killed and three securitymen were injured on Monday in a fierce gunfight with a group of holed up militants in south Kashmir’s Tral in Pulwama district.

A senior police officer said troops of counter insurgency Rashtriya Rifles, paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force and police jointly surrounded a house in village Medoora on specific information about presence of militants inside it.

“One policeman was killed while two CRPF jawans and a cop were injured as an encounter erupted between the holed up militants and the surrounding security forces,” the officer said.

The injured were evacuated to hospital for treatment.

“The encounter is on and we believe one of the holed up militants is killed,” he added.

The entire village has been cordoned off by the security forces and senior police and paramilitary officers are at the spot.
