After boycotting work for 24 hours to protest the killing of a doctor by prisoners at Gopalganj jail, members of Bihar Health Services Association on Wednesday resumed work at government hospitals across the state.
"Doctors have got back to work and everything has been going on smoothly at hospitals since morning," officials said. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday had ordered the transfer of the Inspector General (jail) and Gopalganj district magistrate on the basis of a report by the principal secretary (home) who inquired into the incident.
Kumar had also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the victim.
Health services were partially affected across the state after nearly 2,600 government doctors under the BHSA banner boycotted work protesting the killing of their colleague Bhuddhadev Singh at Gopalganj jail on Sunday night.
The association were demanding a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family of the deceased, besides ensuring adequate security to the doctors on duty, and the implementation of the Medical Professionals Protection Act.
