President's security raised after 'E-mail threat'

October 13, 2008 11:37 IST

Security of President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, who arrived in Pune on Friday on a four-day visit, has been beefed up following an E-mail threat.

Police received the E-mail on Sunday.

The President was provided a new bullet-proof vehicle, official sources said, adding that the vehicle was requisitioned from Mumbai.

Though no group has claimed responsibility for the threatening and 'abusive' email, state and central intelligence agencies were trying to trace the E-mail.

Undeterred by the security threat, Patil spent an extra 30 minutes at the Commonwealth Youth Games, which she declared open on Sunday evening.

More than 1,300 athletes and 350 officials from 71 countries are participating in the games. In view of the threat, all vehicles to Raj Bhawan were being thoroughly checked.

When a media person sought to know why even security-marked vehicles were being checked, a cop said, "E-mail threat".

The threat said the attacker could come in any 'disguise', the sources said.
