President Pratibha Patil's son Rajendra alias Raosaheb Shekhawat is pitching for a Congress ticket to contest from the Amravati assembly seat in Vidarbha.
"I am banking on my work done over the last several years in Amravati, where I have been associated with educational institutions and social work," Raosaheb said.
Raosaheb met the party panel for Maharashtra polls at Tilak Bhavan in central Mumbai on Thursday.
"My application will now go before the screening committee and I am hopeful of the ticket," he said.
Citing social work like organising blood-donation camps, Raosaheb said, "For the last 10 years I have been in politics through the Congress Seva Dal as Mumbai unit secretary and presently as vice-president of the Amravati unit."
Raosaheb is unperturbed that Member of Legislative Assembly and Minister of State for Public Works Sunil Deshmukh is also a contender for the Congress seat from Amravati.
He said, "There is nothing wrong in my seeking the ticket."
"I had also sought the assembly ticket from Badnera during the 2004 elections," he added.President Pratibha Patil
