Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday met President Pratibha Patil and discussed the internal security situation.
First the two had a one-on-one meeting after which Home Minister P Chidambaram joined in the discussion, in what was seen as a rare occasion.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said during the 50-minute-long meeting, the prime minister and the President discussed internal security situation and other current issues of national and international importance.

The Naxal menace and the government's strategy on tackling the issue are understood to have been discussed.

The issue of hanging of Afzal Guru, death row convict in Parliament attack case, is believed to have come up for discussion but there was no confirmation.

In the wake of Delhi Government clearing the file recommending Guru's execution, the issue came up for consideration in the Home Ministry recently.
